Carcinoma Arising in a Branchial Cleft Cyst

Abstract
The development of carcinoma in branchial cleft remnants is recognized as being a rare and controversial entity since it was first proposed in 1882 by Volkmann.
The diagnosis must be made by exclusion certain well-established criteria used by Hayes Martin and co-workers in 1950.
The controversy in regard to the existance of this neoplasm is complicated by the fact that it is located in the same anatomic region as metastatic cervical lymph nodes, thus confusing the clinical and anatomical diagnosis.
The case report is concerned with experience of squamous cell carcinoma arising in the branchial cleft cyst on right neck of 41 year-old male who had no other primary cancer development for 5 year follow-up.
